Lighting designs we love
January is a tricky month – spring still seems a little too far off, and the days are dark and cold. It’s the time to stay at home with log fires, plenty of candles and mugs full of hot drinks. I take comfort in the fact that – believe it or not! – the days are getting a little lighter as each passes, and although it may be cold (and wet and windy this year!), the new year brings with it fresh hope and excitement that helps see us through the chilly days. Spare a thought for our Scandinavian friends too – if you thought our winters were dark and foreboding, theirs are in another league entirely. Which is why, especially for the Nordic region, lighting is so important at this time of year!
I love lighting – my lighting Pinterest board is packed full of things that have inspired me – and last year we introduced our first collection of lamps to the store. So today on the blog, to help get you through these challenging January days, we thought we’d share with you some fabulous lighting designs that caught our eyes…
One of the highlights of our lighting collection, these metal wall-lamps with their wonderfully retro styling makes them one of the hottest designs we’ve seen this season. The angle of the shade is adjustable so it can act as an uplighter, a downlighter or a spotlight, and the base is made in sturdy brushed metal. We think they’re very good value too, at £95 each.
One of our new lighting designs, this season’s must-have lighting has a distinctly retro vibe, which makes this the perfect work lamp for your desk or bedside table. Versatility is the key here, because the go-anywhere copper with aluminium detailing will match your interior in effortless Scandi style. The angle is fully adjustable at the base, on the shade and on the arm, and the fabric-covered flex is a nicely authentic touch.
Finally, another favourite from Nordic House… This oh-so-clever design is delivered flat, ready to be folded out in the most ingenious fashion to reveal its multi-faceted shapes and angles. The neat little magnets inside ensure easy closing. The best way to light a Scandinavian interior with a modern edge.
It never fails to amaze me how many lighting designs there are out there – whatever your style, whether industrial or coastal or minimalist, there are so many different innovative styles to choose from. So don’t be boring! Sometimes it’s easy to overlook the lighting, after you’ve spent hours agonising over flooring, wall colours, furniture – but choosing a few unique pieces that you truly love will help add the perfect finishing touch to your rooms. It’s a great way to be just a little bit quirky in your scheme!
